[quote]

William Shakespeare - All the world's a stage (from As You Like It 2/7)

All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. At first the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms.
And then the whining school-boy, with his satchel
And shining morning face, creeping like snail
Unwillingly to school. And then the lover,
Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress' eyebrow. Then a soldier,
Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honour, sudden and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the bubble reputation
Even in the cannon's mouth. And then the justice,
In fair round belly with good capon lined,
With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws and modern instances;
And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts
Into the lean and slipper'd pantaloon,
With spectacles on nose and pouch on side,
His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank; and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.

[just a girl]

hahah quoting m.j's billy jeans... she's just a girl...

hahah and today's mother's day. yeah definitely that's one girl that just not just a girl.

the women of our life.

had this insight when driving manual cars at SSDC. cars are like women. different feel, different responsiveness, different power, different biting point. each one with its one strong points, a masterful blend of nature and nuture manifested in a vivid distinct tapestry of different attributes.

life.

just when i feel that i'm getting it under control, the next moment it slips out, and i think life's about catching it, kissing it, and letting it go, only to pursue it and the cycle repeats till we all run out of time.

existence is a challenge

[love's labour lost]

hahah the title is my excuse to talk about love on labour day. somehow, shakespeare's gotten boring for me. (apologies)

so readers, (i'm assuming i'm talking to like this mass assembly of ppl. my own political rally on love!),

what does love mean to you?

is it something to keep you preoccupied only when you're bored? its true right, we don't spend every single moment in thought of our loved ones. doing that would mean we'd do nothing else in life.

is it a commitment? should u be bound emotionally, physically, mentally? or do we love and move on, with each new person coming and going like the seasons of the year. are those who do such things wrong? if life's a journey, do we need one constant companion, or should be draw on the rich wealth of experiences we can get by interacting with a myriad of people? won't that only serve to enrich us?

why enslave yourself doggishly and fanatically to just one? is it worth it, when this causes u to incessantly dote on that one person, your emotions tied and pegged to theirs, your mood rising and falling to keep in sync with your loved ones? how about that dissapointment when your loved one just doesn't seem as interested as you? are we being fair to our loved one?

there's this one quote that i've found very useful in comforting myself at this times.

He who binds to himself a joy
Doth the winged life destroy
But he who kisses the joy as it flies
Lives in Eternity's sunrise.

To see a world in a grain of sand
And a heaven in a wild flower
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand
And eternity in an hour.

to our discussion, the first stanza more useful. but i guess the second stanza when contrasted against the first, teaches us to appreciate the simple things in front of us.

And so the discussion ensues... but if we take this advice that Blake has for us... does that make us less of a lover? to love someone, kissing the joy as it flies... wad does that say about commitment?

then. how much love is there is love? when does love and friendship seperate. or are they merely two friends who walk down the same road? then the human desire for a Best friend. are all these arbitrary points on a spectrum or are they entirely different things.

then. do we need to tell each other how much we care... or issit assumed? are such outbursts, proclamations strange? i found some truth in this when i watched M. Knight Shymalan's The Village. The character played by Joaquim Phoenix does express his love until demanded by his beloved. He goes "why do i have to tell u how much i think about u all the time ..." somehow there's a certain sense of nobility in that.
